For Benefit of Dick Weber’s Charity
Over the years, Dick Weber’s favorite charity was the Bowling Hall of Fame formally known as the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame. When an acquaintance would pass away, Dick would often send a card and in lieu of flowers; he would make a donation to the Hall in memory of the departed. Any person that has ever picked up a bowling ball or watched bowling on television owes a debt of gratitude to Dick Weber. With his charisma, charm and talent he was instrumental in bowling’s rising popularity. In many respects, he brought bowling into homes across the country in the 1960’s. At one time, PBA bowling was the longest running sports show on television and had ratings higher than the NFL. This documentary provides a great keep-sake of this outstanding man and it provides an on-going tribute by creating a significant donation to the man’s designated charity.
Letter From
International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame
It's no accident that the Museum worked hard to get the street in front of the Museum named Dick Weber Lane, because he was without a doubt the Museum's best friend. Dick's response, to way too many requests I made of him over the years always was "it sounds good for the Hall, so let's do it!"
Virtually every month Dick and his wife made a cash donation to the Hall in honor of someone in bowling that had passed away or achieved some milestone. And his wife Juanita continues that process to this day.
Whenever Dick was in the facility, he became our best marketing person. I'll never forget the 4 museum visitors from Ohio excitedly whispering to each other as they spotted Dick walking across the lobby to the exit. When I smiled at Dick and quietly told him that he had been "spotted", he turned around, walked over to them and said "Hi, I'm Dick Weber -- thanks for visiting our Hall of Fame", shook their hands and socialized for awhile. They were shocked, thrilled, and virtually speechless. They had experienced "the man".
It is only fitting that the profits from this outstanding video compilation are being donated to the Hall's Dick Weber Memorial Fund. Video producer Bill McCorkle clearly shares Dick's spirit and devotion to preserving bowling's rich history.
